Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date
The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
