19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He rescued four early chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
